After making war as a civil trial advocate for over 20 years, Alan now makes peace. He only mediates today, so your dispute has his undivided attention.
Big picture, Alan mediates both civil disputes and employment disputes. He’s extensively litigated both in Houston.
Before becoming a mediator, Alan’s civil trial advocacy veered into many areas. He’s duked it out in the courtroom over contracts, fiduciary duties, business litigation, real estate, heirship and estates, employment claims like discrimination, harassment and retaliation, overtime pay claims and collective actions, non-compete and non-solicit agreements and trade secrets.
Both sides of the civil trial docket are no stranger to Alan. He’s prosecuted the cause for plaintiffs; he’s held the line for defendants. From it, Alan got his objectivity.
Alan has already brought his objectivity to bear in mediation. He’s successfully mediated civil trial disputes over employment, contracts, real estate, construction, fraud, probate and personal injuries.
Alan knows the Houston area legal community, down deep. He’s practiced civil trial law in Montgomery County since 2006. Since 2019, Alan has served with the Montgomery County Bar Association. Today, he’s serving in his second term as county bar President. In 2023 and 2024, Alan secured the speakers for Law Day – including nearly every judge at the courthouse.
The jury pool in Montgomery County is a particularly known quantity to Alan. Outside the civil courtroom, Alan has engaged citizens as a campaign manager. And he’s written about it for Texas Lawyer twice.
But Alan has darkened the doors of other courtrooms too. For over 13 years, Alan’s litigation practice routinely led him to federal court in Houston. He even found himself in federal court in Dallas and Midland/Odessa. He’s also practiced in Harris County for 16 years.
As a civil trial advocate, Alan had his peers’ and opponents’ respect. Super Lawyers selected Alan for its Rising Stars list every year from 2012 to 2018 when he aged out.
Justice Medina had choice words on the record about Alan:
…Mr. Bush is the consummate professional. It’s — he’s just a — he’s an honor to our profession.
If we were working with more lawyers like that, maybe dockets would get cleared quicker.—Justice Medina in the 284th Judicial District on 4.28.22
Also back in his advocate days, Alan routinely shared his practical experience speaking and writing. Some of his favorite venues include:
HR Southwest 2012 - 2019
Gulf Coast Symposium on HR 2017 - 2019
South Texas College of Law Employment Law Conference 2012 - 2014
Texas A&M Law Review Energy Law Symposium in 2014 - 2015
Texas CPA Society CPE by the Sea 2014 - 2019
The Dispute Resolution Center for Montgomery County has a special place with Alan. He’s volunteered there consistently since starting his mediation practice.
After mediation work is done, Alan likes to live. He lifts weights, boxes, swims, runs, enjoys live music and grills in his backyard. He loves his wife and two girls. Alan is also very involved with his church family at Hope Church Montgomery. There, he constantly works with the kids’ ministry — about his maturity level sometimes.
